NZ Tallow Co

The bush taught me 'less is more'.

SIMPLE. EFFECTIVE. NATURAL.

Your skin doesn’t need more. It needs the right thing.

Before NZ Tallow Co, I spent seven months living in the New Zealand bush. That’s where I started figuring things out. I learnt a lot - foraging, tanning animal skins, and also how to be very cold lol. But among other things I started making simple balms from natural ingredients and gave them to friends and family. They noticed the difference straight away. Before that, I’d dealt with dry, sensitive skin for years. Most products made it worse. Tallow was the first thing that actually worked. My skin calmed down and stopped flaring up. That was it. Now, having my first child, I understand even more how important it is to keep things natural and simple. I feel confident using this on my baby’s delicate skin. Now NZ Tallow Co has grown, and thousands of Kiwis keep coming back. We keep things simple and we do them properly. No shortcuts.

How we make it

We source our suet from local butchers.

We only use pure suet from around the kidneys. Most companies use mixed fat from all over the animal. Suet costs more, but it’s better quality.

When I first started, I noticed pre-rendered tallow from meatworks or supermarkets

wasn’t the same. It’s often overheated, which damages it and gives it a stronger beefy smell.

We render our tallow slowly at low temperatures using a water process, then filter it multiple times. This process takes much longer than buying pre rendered tallow but it ensures a cleaner more nutrient rich product that is most suitable for the skin 🙂

How it works

Tallow works because it’s similar to the oils your skin already makes. It absorbs easily, supports your skin, and actually moisturises it properly. No unnecessary ingredients.

Just what your skin needs.

OUR PROMISE

We’re a small Kiwi business and we care about our customers.

If something’s not right, we’ll sort it.

Thanks for supporting local and our small family.
