Tallow balm is a skin moisturizer made from rendered beef fat (tallow). Rendering is the process of slowly heating fat to remove impurities and water, leaving behind pure, shelf-stable fat that is rich in fat-soluble vitamins and fatty acids. It has been used as a skin salve across virtually every human culture for thousands of years.

Properly rendered tallow is naturally shelf-stable. Our tallow balm has a shelf life of 6 months when stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat.

Tallow has a fat profile that’s very similar to your skin’s natural oils, which helps it absorb easily without feeling heavy. It’s rich in nourishing fatty acids and naturally contains vitamins A, D, E, and K. Together, these help keep your skin moisturised, soft, and support a healthy skin barrier.
Surprisingly, no, for most people. Because tallow is biocompatible with human skin, it generally does not cause breakouts. In fact, many people with oily or acne-prone skin report that it actually helps balance sebum production.
Because we render our tallow at very low temperatures and filter it multiple times, it has a significantly lower scent compared to other brands. If you choose one of our scented options, you won’t detect any beefy smells. However, the unscented version, since it doesn’t include essential oils, will have a mild tallow scent. So if you’re extra sensitive, a scented option will be the better fit.
As a small New Zealand business, we proudly source our tallow from suet from grass-fed cows raised in New Zealand. These cows are treated well, ensuring our tallow is free from synthetic growth hormones and rich in essential nutrients.

Tallow naturally hardens in cooler weather, much like coconut oil. This is actually a mark of purity and potency. Our balm has no fillers or water, just pure tallow and oils. To soften it, simply warm it between your hands or keep it in a warmer room.
